FAQ

What is a wellness chiropractor?

A wellness chiropractor seeks to increase the overall function of a person’s nervous system to increase their overall health.  It is known that the body is a self healing organism and that the nervous system controls the natural healing of the body.  When your nervous system has interference, it will not work at its best potential, interfering with your natural ability to heal.  Misalignments or subluxations in your joints can cause this interference and removing them results in a greater state of health!

What is an adjustment?

The adjustment is the primary mode of treatment for all chiropractors.  It is a very specific move where a chiropractor focuses on a dysfunctional joint in the body and places a force into it to induce proper motion back into it, helping it to function properly again.

What is the popping noise when I get adjusted?

Your joints are filled with fluid, which helps them stay lubricated.  When you are adjusted, gas in the form of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide can escape due to pressure changes.  Keep in mind that there is not always a popping noise for every adjustment and that an absence of a sound does not make the adjustment any less effective.  The popping noise is also always sounds louder in the neck, but that’s just because the origin of the sound is closer to your ears!

Does chiropractic hurt?

In general, chiropractic adjustments don’t hurt at all.  Most people would agree that they feel great!  However, there are cases where a patient will feel some discomfort, similar, but less intense than being bruised.  If it is to happen, it will most likely be with new patients as their joints can be extremely locked up compared to a normal chiropractic patient.

Is chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic is known as one of the safest, if not the safest form of health care in America.  Don’t believe me?  Ask a malpractice insurance agent.  In general, safety and malpractice premiums are inversely proportionate because the safer a treatment is, the less risk an insurance company has to play with.  Chiropractors pay the least malpractice premiums among all health care professionals.  Often a year of premium for chiropractors is less than a month for other professionals!

Are chiropractors doctors?

All graduates from chiropractic schools in America become Doctors of Chiropractic (DC).  The amount of education is comparable to medical doctors with a greater emphasis on anatomy, biomechanics, physical therapy, and nutrition.

Can children see a chiropractor?

Of course!  Our youngest patient was actually less than an hour old!  A properly functioning nervous system is extremely important when a child is developing mentally and physically.  Our saying goes that “chiropractic kids have an unfair advantage against other kids” in that they can a stronger immune system and nervous system.  It is also very important to rule out muscle imbalances when a child’s growing and bones are developing.  Chiropractic has great results with conditions such as ear infections, asthma, colic, ADHD, and scoliosis to name a few.

Is chiropractic expensive?

There are many studies out there showing the cost effectiveness in chiropractic.  People that regularly see chiropractors on average are less sick, get less surgeries, and require less prescription medicine.  In other words, they spend less on health care than others that do not see a chiropractor.

Is chiropractic addictive?

Chiropractic is in no way shape or form addictive.  Many people feel much better following their chiropractic visits including increased energy, better focus, and being more relaxed, but what they don’t realize is that this is how their body is supposed to feel if it wasn’t being stressed so much on a physical, chemical, or emotional basis.

What will my first visit be like?

The first visit at our office includes an initial consultation, a nervous system scan, and x-rays if necessary.  The doctor will go over past medical history, perform a brief physical, posture analysis, check for muscle imbalances, and your health and wellness goals and concerns.  Treatment in the form of an adjustment or muscle work may be given on the first visit on an individual basis.
